Chowan River – 3/11/17
Thirty-six teams braved to cool, post-frontal conditions on the Chowan River during Saturday’s opening event for the Collins Inc. – Bass For Cash Series. Although mother nature didn’t provide the most comfortable conditions for the event, the bites and quality of fish certainly made up for it, as some really great weights were recorded, proving that this Eastern North Carolina fishery has a lot to offer.
Randy Broughman and Bobby Kinsey topped the field with their catch of five fish weighing 21.54 lbs. The duo were also Ranger Cup qualified and will receive an additional $500 from Ranger Boats for their win.
Mike May and Dale Winstead narrowly missed their shot at the top spot with their five bass weighing in at 21.24 lbs. May and Winstead had to settle for the second position.
JR Milligan and JA Williford III filled the third spot with a weight of 19.95 lbs. Raymond Jones and Braxton Chase secured the fourth spot with their catch of 19.40 lbs. William Preast Jr and William Preast III rounded out the top five with 18.69 lbs.
Kyle Ash netted the lunker payout for the event with a largemouth weighing in at 7.43 lbs and in addition to his cash payout for such, he gained an additional $100 gift certificate to Outdoor Accessories Unlimited.
Thanks to Stevens Sausage of Smithfield, NC for providing food items for the participants during the afternoon weigh-in.
A Special thanks to Universal Chevrolet of Wendell, NC, Z-Man Fishing Products and Ranger Boats for the door prizes.
